Taboo Two ? A Breeding Note

Sometimes when breeding, if you are lucky, you get a flashback to a particular dog you admire. When I got these snaps of Denis Gros-Louis' new girl pup (top left) I immediately thought of her grandmother Taboo at nearly the same age. Denis owns the Napoleo kennels of Quebec and over the years he has had a number of Benbaron dogs. He was lucky to get the pup's mother, Xquisite, from Tikki Smith's Lasquite kennel. As things turned out, Xquisite is the only living daughter of GD CH Benbaron's Taboo Of Yondo, the 2010 National Best Of Breed. The Wolf's of Ohio kindly managed the whelping for Denis. There was also a big boy in the litter.

Denis decided to breed Xquisite to her cousin, Benbaron's Ustinov Of Eddie. Ustinov was owned by the Carmen kennels of Janice Holmes and, wisely, she had frozen semen from her handsome big boy. So the breeding was a Yondo grandson to a Yondo granddaughter. Denis doubled up on Yondo, the 1986 and 1987 National BOB. To our mind, Taboo was very much like Yondo - a massive smooth with tremendous reach and drive. We strongly recommend that breeders use this sort of inbreeding to concentrate the genes that they like and fix the type they seek.

So it really doesn't surprise us totally that "Harmony" the new girl puppy should remind us of Taboo and Yondo. It will be fun watching this one grow up.

And here she is heading out to her first "baby class" show...

Already stacking like a pro!
